First Moravian Youth
“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12
Mission Camp 2007
When I look back over the week at mission camp, my only response is wow! What a great week! Our team from First Moravian did a lot of hands on ministry to folks in Alleghany County. We tore out rotten leaky roofs. We waged war against hornets, red wasps and yellow jackets and emerged victorious. We sawed and hammered in 2 by 4s and plywood for new roofs, and then shingled them. We tore out old carpet and painted. We cleaned windows, gutters, porches, walls, and even an outdoor grill. We dusted high up and low down places. We trimmed bushes and whacked back weeds. We got a prison deterrent lesson from breaking up rock hard soil. We met two “chronologically advantaged” widows, Lois and Agnes, who were immensely grateful for all tasks we tackled around their homes that needed doing. We met “Abby” and “Buddy” a chocolate lab and doxen dogs who were eager to play when we took breaks. We met many other wonderful Moravians from Clemmons, Good Shepherd, Fries Memorial, and King Moravian with whom we worshipped, ate meals, and played together during our week together. The four of us, Stuart and Jacob Smith, Colin Harriman and I, got to know one another better, and what we learned was all positive for me. They were wonderful representatives of not only First Moravian, but what it means to be a Christian in giving and receiving the gifts of God as they interacted with one another and the families we ministered to. They did each member left behind in Greensboro, proud (particularly their parents J !!) This week at mission camp will be one of highlights of my time as your interim pastor.
